Oudman Family News

We mourn with Clarence Oudman and his family in the passing away of his father last week.

We rejoice with Clarence and Patty Oudman in the birth of healthy twin grandchildren born this week – It’s a boy! and It’s a girl!

The Lord gives and the Lord takes away – Blessed be the name of the Lord!

Jog-a-thon

On Wednesday, September 10, all students will be participating in a Jog-A-Thon.  Each student will be walking/running around the paved path at the Field of Dreams from approximately 12:30 – 2:45.  They will need to find sponsors before the event to pledge a dollar amount per lap (each lap is just shy of a mile) or a flat donation.  Parents, please encourage your son/daughter to find at least five sponsors.

MOMS In Touch

A Moms in Touch group meets weekly at Covenant.  An invitation was mailed to Moms this week.  An informational “breakfast” is planned for September 12 from 8:30 – 9:30.  Please come and find out more about this wonderful ministry.  There will be no pressure or commitment needed that morning – please just come and check it out.  If you know of a grandma or aunt that is interested in being a prayer warrior, please invite them.

News from the Guidance Counselor’s Office

Parents – One of the best things that you can do to stay informed about your child’s progress is to check RenWeb.

Why Check RenWeb?

ü      Sometimes all a student needs is some accountability

ü      Sometimes a student is not aware of the impact that one missing assignment can have on their grade

ü      Sometimes a little discipline at home produces academic fruits

ü      A word of encouragement for academic effort (i.e., just getting assignments turned in on time) goes a long way toward motivating a student to keep up the effort

ü      You are a part of the “team” that helps produce academic success

If you have not logged on yet this year, please do so.  RenWeb.com, District Code is CCHS-IN, enter your e-mail address and, if you have never logged on, click new parent.  A password will be e-mailed to you in 3 minutes (according to RenWeb – it may take longer).  If you have trouble logging on to RenWeb, please contact the office for assistance.

Sophomores and Juniors

Volleyball

Next year, Covenant does not have a volleyball coach lined up.  If you might be interested, now would be a great time to help and learn the ropes. Lynn Schakel would love an assistant.  Please go to the office and fill out an application.  Also give Lynn a call and let her know of your interest at 987-5696.

Aug 30 game against Culver:  The varsity girls played a tough match.  Culver and we were well-matched, the scores for the most part were very close.  We lost the first two games, came back to win the third, and finally lost in the fourth.  Games were 26/24, 25/15, 23/25, and 25/22.

The JV team had a very tough day.  Three girls were on vacation and it was very difficult for the remaining girls to adjust.  Amy did a fantastic job filling in for one of our setters.  Best moment of the day came at game point in the second game – a great rally that looked like the team I know best.  The ball stayed in play for a long time, the girls got everything, and won the rally.  Although the game was lost, that one moment of brightness reminded us of our potential!  Way to go girls!

Sep 2 game against LaCrosse:  JV girls lost in three games, 25/24, 10/25 and a missing third game score.  Bethany was our top server and hitter with 100% efficiency in serving, 25% aces, and 2 kills.  The girls are still getting used to playing at a high school level with rotations and positions; however, this week’s practice shows great promise for Friday’s game against Faith…Come check it out!

The Varsity team played a very close match against LaCrosse…a little too close if you ask any of them, but they were able to win the match in four games – 25/23, 14/25, 27/25, and 25/23.  Top servers – Corinne with 100% efficiency on 16 serves.  Jessica also had 16 serves with a slightly less efficient score of 88%, but a whopping 50% aces!  Team serve efficiency was 83%.  Corinne had the most kills with 9 (38%), Angela (38%) and Tara (33%) each had 8 kills, and Lindsey had 7 kills (37%).  They too had a good week of practice in prep for Friday’s game.  It should be a good one!  Come see.

Community News

Post Prison Ministry Conference

There are 2.4 million prisoners in the United States…10% of them are Christians…70% of them will return to prison within three years of their release…Who will be there to meet our brothers and sisters at the gate, to teach them what it means to live in a community, and to reconstruct the family most of them never had?

Please join Immanuel United Reformed Church, Mid America Reformed Seminary and Koinonia House Ministries as they explain a hands-on Biblical discipleship model to equip the Church

to love and embrace Christians neighbors coming out of prison in Indiana and Illinois.

The conference will be held at the Seminary on Saturday October 4th from 9:00am – 12:00 noon.  The Seminary is located at 229 Seminary Drive Dyer, IN 46311.  There will be no cost for the conference.  To register go to www.koinoniahouse.org or call Don Hoekstra at 219-987-5797 or Jon Hoek at 219-956-4947.

Community CRC invites you to the Liberated Wailing Wall concert in Roselawn on September 19 at 7:00 p.m.  You will enjoy this very Christian music with a very Israeli sound.  An offering will be taken in support of their evangelistic ministry.

Community CRC in Roselawn is excited to host Larnelle Harris in concert on Saturday, December 6, at 7:00 PM in our church. Currently, we are forming a choir of approx. 40-45 people that will sing with Larnelle Harris on 4-5 songs during the concert.  The choir will be on the stage during the concert; therefore no ticket will be required for choir members.  We are asking that you be able to read music at some level, love to sing and be available for rehearsals starting in mid-October. Since our number is limited, this will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Our director is Kyle Vanderzee, our Director of Worship and Arts.  If you are interested in joining, please contact Sheri at 987-3999 or e-mail at sheri826@netnitco.net or Rosemary at 987-4761 or e-mail at jabber@netnitco.net
